John Cullinane
John Cullinane is a pioneer of the commercial software industry and the founder of Cullinet Software, one of the first software companies to achieve major commercial scale. Founded in 1968 and originally known as Cullinane Corporation, Cullinet became the first software company listed on the New York Stock Exchange and was, for a time, the largest independent software company in the world. Cullinane was an early and forceful advocate for the recognition of software as a legitimate commercial industry at a time when most computing was hardware-driven, and his company's success helped establish Boston as a serious center of software development. His career is one of the origin stories of the Massachusetts software economy.
